International Student /  Overseas Chinese Student Visa

Foreign students who studying abroad in Taiwan are required to apply for a residence visa before coming to Taiwan (at least one month is required)

1.Required documents and precautions

• Foreign students:  foreign students (visa note code FS)
• Overseas Chinese students:  Overseas Chinese (Visa Note Code FC)

2.Fill in the application form ( General Visa Application , Type: Resident Visa ) and apply at the Foreign Affairs Office of the Republic of China . 

• Students who have obtained a residence visa must apply for the Alien Residence Certificate (ARC) within 15 days of arrived in Taiwan.

All new foreign students must complete a health exam for a Resident Visa at a Ministry-designated hospital in their home country. They should submit the health certificate to the Healthcare Center on the registration day. For the regulations of the “Foreigner Health Examination,” please refer to the website Taiwan Centers for Disease Control.

What do Overseas Chinese students mean?

1. Overseas Chinese students refers to those who are born overseas and have stayed continuously so far, or have stayed overseas continuously for more than 6 years, and have obtained permanent or long-term residence permits of the country that they have been staying in . However, for those who apply to study medicine, dentistry and traditional Chinese medicine, their continuous residence period shall be more than 8 years.

2. The term "overseas" refers to countries or regions other than the mainland, Hong Kong and Macau; continuous residence means that Chinese students stay in Taiwan for less than 120 days per calendar year (1/1~12/31); obtain permanent residence or Long-term residence permits that can obtain citizenship and permanent residency in the place of residence of overseas Chinese, or be recognized as overseas residents with the signature of the passport of the Republic of China.

Indonesia

2. A photocopy of Household Registration Transcript in Indonesia
3. Original and a photocopy of passport (should be valid for at least 6 months)
4. Two photos (4*6) in color within 3 months
5. Original and a photocopy of letter of admission
6. Original and a photocopy of highest academic credentials (diploma and transcript) 
7. Original and a photocopy of the proof of medical examination (no verification required; validity period within 3 months; no designated hospital, but if you go to the clinic for inspection, it must be a designated clinic; if the test for Measles and Rubella is negative, additional Measles and Rubella injection certificate)
8. Proof of sufficient financial resources (1. There should be at least 6 months of recurring financial resources of more than US $ 5,000. The source of financial resources can be parents or other relatives. If it is other relatives, the principle listed in the transcript of the household registration held and can prove the relationship; 2. Sponsored students should attach an acceptable scholarship certificate)
9. Proof of language ability (choose one of the following)
   1. TOCFL A2 and above
   2. TOEFL iBT 26 grades and above or ITP 385 grades and above
   3. TOEIC 375 grades and above
   4. IELTS 3.0 grades and above

• Taipei Economic and Trade Office, Jakarta, Indonesia

Malaysia

1. Original and a photocopy of passport (should be valid for at least 6 months)
2. Online Visa Registration, print out the filled Visa form and sign. Regarding online Visa Registration (https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw)
3. Two copies of 2" photos in color within 6 months
4. Original and a photocopy of letter of admission
5. Original and a photocopy of the proof of medical examination (within 3 months)
6. Original and a photocopy of highest academic credentials (diploma and transcript) and proof of sufficient financial resources 
7. Parent consent, parents' identity card, and proof of birth for the students who are under 20 years old 
8. Affidavit of Foreign Status to verify your international student status (The form is available on request at local Taiwan representative office and the applicant must affix his/her signature.)

• Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia

South Korea

1. Online Visa Registration, print out the filled Visa form and sign. Regarding online Visa Registration (https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw)
2. Two copies of 2" photos in color within 6 months
3. Original and a photocopy of passport 
4. Proof of medical examination 
5. Proof from the university and college or competent educational administrations at all levels
6. Letter of admission
7. Original of the Student Status Letter (For exchange students)

Note: Overseas Chinese students must apply with Distribution Notice issued by the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students or a letter of distribution issued by the Ministry of Education.

• Taipei Mission in Korea

Thailand

1. Original and a photocopy of passport (should be valid for at least 6 months) (should include the first page of the passport and the visa as well as the entry and exit stamp if available)
2. Online Visa Registration, print out the filled Visa form and sign. Regarding online Visa Registration (https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw) with two copies of 2" photos within 6 months
3. Original and a photocopy of letter of admission
4. Original and a photocopy of highest academic credentials (diploma and transcript) which should be translated in Chinese or English. (Translation and the original are needed)
5. Original and a photocopy of highest academic credentials (diploma and transcript) and proof of sufficient financial resources (The applicant must provide a bank deposit certificate to prove that it is available for undertaking the living expenses in Taiwan. The certificate of deposit must show a record of at least 6 months long.) or a full scholarship certificate or the real property ownership certificate. The real estate ownership certificate can be provided by the applicant's parents, and please attach proof of kinship.
6. A study plan written in Chinese or in English (including the motivation and purpose of attending school in Taiwan)
7. Original and a photocopy of the proof of medical examination (within 3 months)
8. Foreign language proficiency certificate: Students who apply for degree programs in full English must submit one of the following basic English proficiency certificates (for example: TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, University of Cambridge ESOL Examination);, students must submit Taiwan's TOCFL ability certificate when the course is not in full English. The minimum standards are as follows:

A. Chinese Language ability: TOCFL A2 and above

B. English Language ability (one of the following): 

a. TOEFL iBT 26 grades and above or ITP 385 grades and above

b. TOEIC 375 grades and above

c. IELTS 3.0 grades and above

d. University of Cambridge ESOL Examination: KETA Level 2 and above

Note: A visa interview is required of the applicant with a 2.8 GPA or higher in high school per semester, or a C-average (or 70 points) in college per semester. Overseas Chinese students must apply with Distribution Notice issued by the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students or a letter of distribution issued by the Ministry of Education.

Vietnam(North of Da Nang)

1. Original and a photocopy of passport (should be valid for at least 6 months) (should include the first page of the passport and the visa as well as the entry and exit stamp if available)
2.  Visa Registration, print out the filled Visa form and sign. Regarding online Visa Registration (https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw) with Two passport-size photos in color within 6 months
3. Two photo (5*3.5) within 6 months
4. Original and a photocopy of letter of admission
5. Original and a photocopy of highest academic credentials (diploma and transcript) (A Chinese or English translation which is notarized by the Foreign Affairs Office of Ho Chi Minh City is required if the documents are not in either of the languages aforementioned. The graduation certificate and transcript shall be authenticated by Taiwan Embassy or Taiwan representative office in/near the country before enrolment.)
6. Original and a photocopy of proof of sufficient financial resources
7. A study plan written in Chinese or in English
8. Original and a photocopy of proof of medicine examination from designated hospital (within 3 months)
9. Foreign language proficiency certificate: Students who apply for degree programs in full English must submit one of the following basic English proficiency certificates (for example: TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, University of Cambridge ESOL Examination);, students must submit Taiwan's TOCFL ability certificate when the course is not in full English. B. For special class for international students, and study mandarin for one year first: The result in TOCFL should be Level 1 or above

7. Proof of medical examination and a photocopy from designated hospital (Thong Nhat Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital, Danang Hospital, Khanh Hoa Hospital, or Can Tho General Central Hospital)(within 3 months)
8. Foreign language proficiency certificate: Students who apply for degree programs in full English must submit one of the following basic English proficiency certificates (for example: TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, University of Cambridge ESOL Examination); students must submit Taiwan's TOCFL ability certificate when the course is not in full English. The minimum standards are as follows:

Chinese Language ability: 

A. For studying in university: The result in TOCFL should be Level 2 or above

B. For special class for international students, and study mandarin for one year first: The result in TOCFL should be A1 and above

English Language ability: 

A. TOEFL: more than 26 points in iBT, 385 points in pBT

• Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City

Nepal

1. Online Visa Registration, print out the filled Visa form and sign. Regarding online Visa Registration (https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw)
2. Visa Request Letter from applicant, stating the study plan (duration, type of degree)
3. 2 Passport size Photos (3.5 cm*4.5 cm) within 6 months 
4. Original and a photocopy of passport (should be valid for at least 6 months)
5. Kotak Bank payment slip
6. Letter of admission
7. Proof of medical examination and a photocopy from designated hospital (within 3 months)
8. Original and a photocopy of proof of financial support resources (personal/parents' ITR and Bank statement)
9. Original and photocopy of highest degree and transcript attested by the MEA and TECC, and the Original one should submit at the counter for reference.
10. The visa guarantee letter provided by the inviter in Taiwan.

Note: Overseas Chinese students must apply with Distribution Notice issued by the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Students. Their highest academic certificate and transcript must be signed and approved by both the designated sponsor and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office.

• Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in India

Myanmar

1. Online Visa Registration, print out the filled Visa form and sign. Regarding online Visa Registration (https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw)
2. Original and a photocopy of passport (should be valid for at least 2 years)
3. Two passport-size photos within 6 months
4. Originals and photocopies of ID card, household register, highest academic credentials (diploma and transcript) , all verified by the Ministry of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Myanmar
5. Original and photocopy of letter of admission
6. Original and a photocopy proof of financial support resources
7. A study plan written in Chinese or in English (including the motivation and the purpose of attending school in Taiwan)
8. Original and a photocopy proof of medical examination (conducted in Palace Nan Taw Hospital or Asia Royal Hospital) (within 3 months)
9. Foreign language proficiency certificate: Students who apply for degree programs in full English must submit one of the following basic English proficiency certificates (for example: TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, University of Cambridge ESOL Examination);, students must submit Taiwan's TOCFL ability certificate when the course is not in full English. The minimum standards are as follows:

A. Chinese Language ability: The result in TOCFL should be A2 or above

B. English Language ability (one of the following): 

a. TOEFL: more than 26 points in iBT, 385 points in pBT

b. TOEIC: more than 375 points

4. Original and photocopy of Birth certificate issued by the Philippines Statistics Office(PSA)
5. Original and a photocopy of Marriage Certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Office (PSA) (if female applicant is married)
6. Original and photocopy of highest Diploma and Transcript of Records
7. Original and photocopy of Letter of admission
8. Original and photocopy of medicine examination from designated hospital or clinic (within 3 months)
9. Original and photocopy of financial support resources ( to show sufficient funds relative to intended length of stay), or full scholarship certificate 
10. The applicant will be scheduled for an interview if required

7. Original and a photocopy of medicine examination from Bach Mai Hospital, Saint Paul hospital, Transport Hanoi 1 Hospital, Thong Nhat Hospital, Cho Ray hospital, Hue Central Hospital, Benh vien da khoa tu nhan Trang An, Benh vien da khoa tu nhan Hong Ngoc or Benh vien E (within 3 months)

Original and a photocopy of medicine examination from Thong Nhat Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital, Danang Hospital, Khanh Hoa Hospital, or Can Tho General Central Hospital, Calmette Hospital, or Phnom Penh Municipal Referral Hospital (within 3 months) (The medicine examination should be verified by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City if it is from Calmette Hospital, or Phnom Penh Municipal Referral Hospital)
